The departure of the Local’s long-term Public Sector Business Agent left a void. Local 355 President Mark Garey tapped Business Agent Scott Chismar to fill that void. Meetings with the stewards were set, and the new teammates quickly formed a healthy and productive bond.
Having many years of Teamsters' negotiating experience helped Chismar with the talks, but he gives complete credit to each bargaining team he partnered with for the success reached at the table.
“These are proud Teamster members who provide essential services to the residents of Anne Arundel County,” said Chismar, adding, “They make sure the parks are preserved, clean and safe, incoming calls to 911 are handled calmly and expeditiously, fire scenes are handled quickly and efficiently to protect life and property, and folks leaving detention centers are properly processed and monitored.”
The ratified one-year contracts will be in effect from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Common to all the agreements are wage increases, with health and welfare benefits maintained. The contracts passed with very wide margins of support.
President Mark Garey is proud to have the hard-working public servants of Anne Arundel County among the ranks of Local 355 members. “These workers exemplify what it means to be a Teamster, and they do their part to make Maryland a great, safe state to live and work in,” said Garey. "Their victories could not have been possible without the shop stewards, and I would like to thank each one of them for their hard work.”
