Today in 1978
A cooling tower for a power plant under construction in Willow Island, W. Va., collapses, killing 51 construction workers in what is thought to be the largest construction accident in U.S. history. OSHA cited contractors for 20 violations, including failures to field test concrete. The cases were settled for $85,000 — about $1,700 per worker killed.

May 10, 2018 | COLLECTIVE BARGAINING/ORGANIZING | The Teamsters are endorsing legislation introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) yesterday that would enhance the ability of workers to organize and fight for better wages, benefits and working conditions on the job. The Workplace Democracy Act would ensure more hardworking Americans become part of the middle class by making it easier for workers to join a union.
