Teamsters Honor Juneteenth
Updated On: Jun 19, 2025

June 19, 2025 | US HISTORY | Today, Teamsters join communities around the nation to honor the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth, a federal holiday marking the end of slavery. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger, along with more than 1,800 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take control of the state and ensure freedom for the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the area. The Teamsters Union has a proud and historic record of fighting for equitable contracts that uplift millions of workers of all backgrounds into the middle class, supporting the recognition of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and combatting racism and discrimination.
