May 26, 1934: Ford Motor Co. security guards attack union organizers and supporters attempting to distribute literature outside the plant in Dearborn, Mich., in an event that was to become known as the “Battle of the Overpass.” The guards tried to destroy any photos showing the attack, but some survived—and inspired the Pulitzer committee to establish a prize for photography.

Retirement Experts, Advocates Urge Md. Delegates to Support HB 1318

Mar. 18, 2013 | SOCIAL SAFETY NETS | Retirement policy experts and advocates urged members of the Maryland House Economics Matters Committee to move forward with a bill that would help prevent the poverty that threatens millions of Maryland workers as they retire. HB1318, sponsored by Del. Tom Hucker (D-Silver Spring), would create the Maryland Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program for private sector workers who lack access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan…A public opinion research report released [recently] by the National Institute on Retirement Security found overwhelming support for expanding access to retirement savings through a plan similar to that proposed by Hucker.
