President/Business Agent    Denis Taylor

   Denis served six years in the U.S. Army, before becoming a member of Local 355 in 1979 while employed as a driver at United Parcel Service. In 1982, he was elected by his peers as shop steward.
   He was Sargeant-at-Arms for Local 355 in 1983, and Recording Secretary for the local in 1988. In 1991 Denis became a local business agent. He was subsequently elected president and principal officer in 1994, a leadership position he has held since.

Secretary-Treasurer/Business Agent    David White

   Dave originally joined the Teamsters Union in 1967 while employed at Montgomery Ward, and became a member of Local 355 in 1980 while employed as a driver for B. Green & Co. In 1983, Dave became shop steward for Green's transportation department, a position he held until 1993. 
   In 1994, Dave was elected Local 355 Secretary-Treasurer, a position he holds today.

Vice-President/Business Agent    Ervin Williams

   Ervin ("Erv") originally joined the Teamsters Union in 1973 as a delivery driver with Local 822 at United Parcel Service in Virginia. Six years later, he signed on as a shop steward, representing his coworkers until 1984. In 1985, he became a business agent for Local 822, and principal officer in 1989. He served Local 822 until 1994. In 1995, Erv joined Local 355 as a business agent, and was elected vice president in 1999. Additional career highlights include:

Recording Secretary/Business Agent    Bill Alexander

   Bill joined the Teamsters Union in 1973 while employed as a driver for Anchor Motor Freight. He was elected in 1986 shop steward by his coworkers at New Penn, serving in that capacity until 1997, when he was elected vice president of Teamsters Local 557. Bill was elected president of Local 557 in 2002, and served until Local 557 merged with Local 355 in 2005, at which time he became Local 355's recording secretary, a position he holds today. Trustee/UPS    Janet Genovese

   Janet joined Teamsters 355 when she started working at UPS part-time as a driver's helper. She was elected shop steward in 1997, and with the exception of one term, has been a shop steward since. In 2001, she became a full time UPS employee working in the warehouse.
   Janet became a trustee in 2007, becoming the first woman ever to be elected to the 355 executive board. She attended the 2007 Woman's Conference.

Trustee/US Foodservice    Ed Mulford III

   Ed joined Local 355 in 1991 when he signed on as a driver at Sysco. In 1994, he went to work for U.S. Foodservice and was elected shop stewardin 1997, a position he holds today. In 2006 served as an alternate delegate to the 2006 IBT Convention in Las Vegas. Appointed to the local executive board as a trustee, Ed was elected to the position in 2008.

Trustee/UPS    Timothy Marvel

   Tim is a fifth-generation trade unionist who joined Local 355 in 1991 as a part timer for UPS while attending Towson State University. After graduating, he chose to go full-time with UPS as a package car driver, a position he holds today. He became a shop steward in 2003, working under the tutelage of former trustee Don Riley. He was elected trustee in 2008 following the retirement of trustee Ralph Boarman.

Business Agent    Chip Elgert

   While employed as a helper at The Kronheim Company, Lloyd "Chip" Elgert joined Local 355 in 1966 and served on the negotiation committee there in 1970. Chip went on to become a driver and shop steward for Liquid Carbonic Corporation from 1970 until 1997.
   Chip became Local 355 Sargeant at Arms in 1990 serving in that capacity until 1997 when he became a Local 355 business agent.

   Ray became a member of Local 355 in 1990 while employed at Kraft Foods, and was elected shop steward in 1997. The same year, Ray was appointed a Local 355 trustee, holding both positions until he joined Local 355 staff as an organizer/business agent.

Business Agent    Marcus Smith

   Marcus became a member of Local 355 in 1984 while employed as a warehouseman for B. Green & Co. The following year he was elected warehouse shop steward. In 1993, when Marcus began work for Mountainside Transportation, he signed on as a dockmen/loader shop steward, then in 1995 went on to be a warehouse shop steward at Sysco Food Service. In 1999, Marcus became a business agent for Local 355, a position he holds today.

Business Agent    Charles Marshall

   Marshall, a lawyer and retired state administrative hearing officer/administrative law judge, joined Local 355 staff as a business agent in 2002. He brings to the union his extensive education, legal background and advocacy experience in his representation of public sector employees.
   Marshall represents Local 355 in all governmental activities involving discussions at all levels of county and state administrations.

Business Agent    Dan Taylor

   Dan first became a union member in 1967 when he joined Steamfitters Local 602. From 1988 to 1991 he was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 99 in Washington D.C.
   Beginning in 1991 and for the next eleven years, Dan worked for labor unions, including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) District 4 (Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia); District 14 (Washington, D.C.); the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Chairman's Office, Washington, D.C.; the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way (with Amtrak, CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroads); and the International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (with Amtrak, CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroads).
   In 2002, Dan served as a business agent for Teamster Local 103, and in 2004 he joined the staff of Local 355 as a business agent, a position he holds today.

   Mark originally joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 557 in 1993 as a driver in the freight industry. He was a shop steward at USF Redstar. He became a recording secretary for Local 557 in 2002, then secretary-treasurer in 2003.
    In 2006, Mark joined Local 355 staff as a business agent.

   While employed as a sorter at United Parcel Service Quad Avenue, Eric became a member of Local 355 in 1990. In 1994 he became a full-time delivery driver and served as shop steward from 1997 through 2005. Eric was a feeder driver from 2005 until 2006, when he became a business agent for Local 355.

ON THIS DAY IN 1897:
Polish, Lithuanian and Slovak miners are gunned down—19 dead, more than 50 wounded—by the Lattimer Mine's sheriff deputies in Hazelton, Pa. Most were shot in the back. The miners were marching peacefully and without weapons for collective bargaining and civil liberty.
