The New York Times declares the struggle for an eight-hour workday to be “un-American” and calls public demonstrations for the shorter hours “Labor disturbances brought about by foreigners.” Other publications declare that an eight-hour workday would bring about “loafing and gambling, rioting, debauchery and drunkenness.”

The Public Believes in the Power of Unions

June 25, 2018 | UNIONS | Some anti-worker advocates are trying to convince the public that the labor movement is unnecessary in today’s world. But a survey conducted earlier this month by the Pew Research Center shows that is wishful thinking on their part. The poll found that 55 percent Americans have a positive impression of unions. Additionally, they have a negative view of unions’ reduced size in the workplace in the last two decades, with 51 percent saying it has been mostly bad for workers, compared to 35 percent who say it has been mostly good…Even with the Supreme Court case decision in “Janus v. AFSCME” looming, these results show that a majority of Americans see there is value in a union. Why is that?… Teamsters
