The 189-mile-long St. Lawrence Seaway opens, making the Great Lakes accessible to Atlantic shipping. Thousands of laborers toiled for decades to make it happen; indirectly and directly, the Seaway today supports 75,000 jobs in Canada and 150,000 in the U.S.

June 14, 2017 | The following is a statement from Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa on the tragic shooting that occurred today at a UPS facility in San Francisco. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of this tragedy. The safety of our members is our top priority. As is usually the case with these situations, details are still forthcoming. In the meantime, we are working closely with our local Teamsters Union to assist all of our members who are affected by this senseless act.”
