   On the Green Jobs Front: The National Labor College has released the July publication of the Green Labor Journal, a free monthly e-zine that “examines issues of green jobs, sustainability, clean energy and climate change from a labor movement perspective." This month’s edition includes articles on the sustainability movement in higher education, and a roadmap to our independence from Persian Gulf oil and offshore drilling. Click here to sign up. 
   HC Cost Savings for MD = $829M: National health care reform is expected to save Maryland millions over the next decade to provide converge to nearly 350,000 people. About 14% of the state citizens are uninsured.
   Harley Sales Down, but Profits Up: Sounds like a contradiction, doesn't it? But having cut more than a fifth of its workforce since last year (many of them unionized workers) and more cuts expected, Harley Davidson still reported a $71 million profit in the second quarter, more than triple what it earned last year.
   State Fed Makes Endorsements: U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley top the list of candidates endorsed by the Maryland State AFL-CIO. The complete list of endorsements, which includes candidates for election in the U.S. House of Representatives, the District of Columbia and the Maryland General Assembly is available here.
   NFL Labor Dispute Looms: With a lockout in view and no new labor deal in sight, the 2011 training camp could be truncated or eliminated if the lockout lingers. Every team has issues, including the Ravens.

ON THIS DAY IN 1991:
Twenty-five workers die, unable to escape a fire at the Imperial Poultry processing plant in Hamlet, NC. Managers had locked fire doors to prevent the theft of chicken nuggets. The plant had operated for 11 years without a single safety inspection.
